"MGF – Stiff clutch pedal problem
I own a 1997 MGF and have been finding the operation of the clutch pedal to be increasingly stiff; in fact my wife will not drive it now because of this. The clutch operation seems fine with no slipping it’s just getting the pedal to the floor that's the problem. Is there any lubrication points that need attending to or is the problem more terminal. Your help will be much appreciated.
Answer:
This I am afraid is a common problem, caused by the clutch operating cross shaft seizing in its bushes in the clutch housing. There isn't any means of direct lubrication but sometimes spraying say WD 40mlubrication from the outside improves matters. As a result of the problem we have developed a shaft with the capability of lubrication. However this calls for a gearbox removal to fit it. The shaft costs £32.50. A professional will probably need between six and eight hours to fit this including the gearbox removal and refit. It may be worth changing the clutch at the same time at approx £85. (all prices approx..)"
